Originally known as Colorado’s Ocean Journey Aquarium, it was purchased by Landry’s Restaurant in 2003 and changed its name to Downtown Aquarium. The new owners redesigned the entertainment complex and added a unique dining experience. A great post ahead.

Aquarium Exhibits

The Downtown Aquarium is a sprawling complex with a state-of-the-art aquarium housing 500+ species, as well as a restaurant and lounge. Situated beside the South Platte River, this aquarium enthralls visitors of all ages and interests.

In addition to the main exhibit, Downtown Aquarium offers several other areas for children to explore. In the Wild Colorado exhibit, kids will learn about four major habitats in Colorado from the Great Plains to the Rocky Mountains.

Another highlight is the Shark Cage Experience where they can swim with five different kinds of sharks. The shark cage is a new addition to the downtown aquarium, so make sure you bring your kids along to see it!

In the North America Exhibit, you’ll find a number of interesting animals, including an alligator snapping turtle. There’s also a coral lagoon where you can watch stingrays swim. You’ll also see a North American river otter, which is one of the more interesting animal exhibits we saw at Denver’s Downtown Aquarium.

Mystic Mermaid Dining Shows

If your kids love mermaids, you can catch them up close at the Mystic Mermaid Dining Shows at Downtown Aquarium Denver CO. These enchanting creatures perform a series of underwater dances that teach children about conservation and recycling.

You can also take a ride on the aquatic carousel or interact with stingrays in a touch tank. You can even watch 15-minute feature films in the 4-D theater.

During the Summer Family Nights Monday through Thursday, you can get discounted admission and a $2.99 kids menu at this popular attraction. Plus, you can see mermaids and other interactive animal exhibits for just a fraction of the regular price.

The Mystic Mermaid Dining Show is one of the most awe-inspiring attractions at this unique Denver destination. It is a fun, educational experience that will leave your family with lasting memories. You can expect to see the mermaids swim 1-4 times per day, so call ahead or check their website to find out when they will be performing. A great place to also visit is Sloan’s Lake Park.

4D Theater Experience
