Off-leash dog park

The city of Wheat Ridge has a new off-leash dog park, which opened in October 2011. The two-acre park is located in the northeast portion of Fruitdale Square. It is enclosed by a 6 foot fence and has separate sections for small and large dogs. All dogs must be vaccinated and spayed before entering the off-leash dog area. There is a small fee, but it is worth it to enjoy your pup’s freedom on the park.

The Wheatridge off-leash dog park has solid parking, drinking fountains, and a small shaded area in the center of the park. Its grassy areas are not dusty, and most dog owners pick up after their dogs. There is also an off-leash area for those who aren’t leash-required. This park has off-leash areas for dogs and their owners, which means no one will have to worry about scolding their pet for pooping on the grass. See more Tips

Community engagement program

A new community engagement program at Fruitdale Park has a few key elements. First, residents were asked for their input on the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy. This document, which includes neighborhood-specific recommendations, reflects one year of robust community input. The primary recommendation of the NRS is more focused engagement of residents at neighborhood scales. To help residents have a voice in the process, the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy will feature a series of neighborhood-level engagement events.

Second, the neighborhood was identified as a “sustainably” neighboorhood. As a result, the city developed an action plan to improve the neighborhood’s livability, as well as its ecological footprint. The community engagement program, known as “Let’s Talk,” was created to learn more about residents’ perspectives and concerns. The program will feature virtual events and in-person meetings to gather information from neighborhood residents.
