1. Crown Hill Park
Crown Hill Park is a 242-acre (0.98 km2) recreation area operated by Jefferson County Open Space and located between the cities of Wheat Ridge and Lakewood. The park features a plethora of activities and amenities including picnicking, hiking, biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, walking, roller blading, jogging, and fishing.
A portion of Crown Hill Park is also home to a National Urban Wildlife Refuge. This means that you’ll find a variety of birds in and around the park, including bald eagles, herons, warblers, and kingfishers.
In addition, the park is stocked with fish by Colorado Parks and Wildlife annually, and there are fishing piers and opportunities to catch native sunfish and trout. The lake also has many benches and covered picnic shelters for visitors to enjoy at no cost.
2. Pine Park
Pine Park has got to be our town’s most lauded recreational space, with a well laid out array of amenities to keep residents and visitors alike occupied. The park boasts a number of impressive features, including the aforementioned large-scale astroturf, a large playground and a nice sized swimming pool. The park also boasts a decent sized billiards facility, several picnic shelters and ample seating areas in varying styles. For the savvy resident, the park is a great spot to watch the sun go down. Aside from the above mentioned amenities, the park has a few notable blemishes. The park’s most glaring problem is the number of unreturned phone calls resulting from an overabundance of lost property. Luckily, the park’s finely appointed personnel are well equipped to deal with these matters in an efficient manner.
3. John Patrick Sports Complex
Named for former Lakewood School Superintendent John Patrick, the 40+ acre sports complex features six soccer fields and four baseball fields. It also features paved parking, restrooms and a full service concession stand. The park also includes a playground area, preserved wooded areas and maintenance buildings and sheds.
In addition, the township is working on an inflatable dome for the sports complex, a project municipal manager Patrick Donelly says would add to the community’s sports opportunities. The township plans to issue $4.9 million in bonds for the project, which is expected to be completed in 2024.
